The First List - Reasons I did not Update

Welcome to the end of the year. And with the end comes a number of lists to fill space instead of doing actual writing. Yay filler! So what is the first list we are going to do for the end of the year? Well the top 10 excuses for not updating this year.

10) Family Affairs took precedent
9) No clue what to write about
8) Knew what I wanted to write about, but could not articulate it
7) Did not play what I wanted to write about
6) Felt that it was too late to write about it (working on getting over this one)
5) Forgot
4) Good old procrastination
3) Went out with friends
2) Lazy
1) Wanted to play the game / watch the show instead of write about it.

And there we have it. First (and possible last) list that for the year. I promise to have something real soon.

Denver Comic Con Guests Confirmed

Have you already purchased your 3 Day pass to Denver Comic Con? Good, glad to hear it. Since you have your pass to the halls the geekdom built you will probably want to know whom you will see there. You already know about Stan Lee, but who else will you see?

The first guest, that will hopefully be able to show this year, is Wil Wheaton. Many of you know he was supposed to show up last year but due to some last minute schedule conflicts he had to cancel.

Ohio State University Marching Band Games Tribute

While looking around on the internets, I came across this video from a recent half-time performance from the Ohio State University Marching Band.  Being a former band geek and knowing that IrishPride is still a band geek, I thought that him and others would get a kick out of this video.  The band has some amazing timing and choreography along with classic video game tunes (except for one).  Good job guys!

The CDC Warns of Zombies

So the Center of Disease Control (CDC) is all about saving lives. The best way to save a life is to prepare for a disaster. This can be difficult though. You publish an article about preparing for a tornado or hurricane and they will just gloss right over it. You start talking about preparing for zombies though, that gets peoples attention. To this end the CDC has created a Zombie blog, a graphic novel (attached) and some preparedness posters. You can check out the full thing at the CDC Zombie Apocalypse site.

Call Me Maybe - Star Trek Parody

So a week or so ago we posted a Star Wars Call Me Maybe Parody. Well we here at The Gameslave are equal opportunity geeks. As I felt that, to give the other side of the coin an equal chance, I needed to post this Start Trek: The Next Generation Call Me Maybe parody video that was done in the same fasion as the Star Wars paroday. Enjoy my friends.

Bucky Balls Banned?

As you may have heard the Consumer Product Safety Console has declared that Bucky Balls are unsafe. There reasoning is that the toy is dangerous and unsafe for kids. Young children can swallow the magnets which then can require surgery to remove. While they are not fully banned as of yet, the CPSC is suing Maxfield and Oberton (the makers and distributer of Bucky Balls) to stop sale of the product and issue a recall. They claim that the number of warning labels on the magnet toys stating they are not for children is not enough. Maxfield and Oberton are currently getting around issue by selling the toys on their own site http://www.getbuckyballs.com/ (and I saw them at my local "It's your move" this weekend).

The main issue here is, why can the government control what we can and cannot buy. It is an issue of this being a nanny state. I guess the way I look at it, adults are buying these toys for themselves, and it should be their responsibility to keep them away from children just like any other item that is not safe for children. If you agree that Bucky Balls (and other related toys) should by purchasable by adults for adults then speak up.
