It was a hectic three days at Denver Comic Con, but with hectic times comes fun. We saw lots of cosplayers and took lots of photos. You can find them on the main site here or on Facebook.
The Xbox One has been announced. What do we think about the pros and cons of it?
And our notes.
Big news for The Gameslave, I am hosting a panel featuring Raphael Sbarge, the voice of Kaidan Alenko in Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3. This will be the first panel that I will have had the honor of moderating, so I am looking forward to it. The panel is Friday at 6:00 PM - 6:50 PM in the Hard Rock Café Room (506-507).
This is in addition to our normal coverage and our table located in Artist Valley at D14. Looking forward to seeing you there.
So we have bad news and good news. The bad news is that comic book legend Stan Lee has had to cancel his appearance at Denver Comic Con this year. He had a last minute filming conflict for one of his famous cameos that happen in all Marvel movies. We wish him well and will miss seeing him at the convention. But I would like to know what movie we are getting stood up for.
Good news is that Denver Comic Con has already gotten a replacement guest. The original captain of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701, William Shatner. This means that we are lucky enough to have two of the original cast members for Star Trek at Denver Comic Con as George Takai was already set to attend. If you were one of the lucky few to purchase the gold and silver packages to meet Stan Lee then your tickets will be applied to the new William Shatner Experience. Denver Comic Con will be announcing more details on this shortly.
So does the fact that we lost Stan Lee suck? Yes, you never want to lose a guest at a convention, and the fact that this makes 2 / 2 years that Denver Comic Con lost a head liner looks rather poor. But did they do a damn good job getting a replacement? Hell yes, if someone has to follow up Stan "The Man" Lee who better then William Shatner. Now only if Leonard Nimoy could have come with him.
So I present to you my first attempt at live blogging an event. You may notice a break in times. The place streaming it had some issues with the Xbox and Kinect so I used my laptop as an emergency presentation computer so we could still watch. All times are in PT.
10:00 AM - The show begins.
10:02 AM - We are seeing a bunch of popular people talking about us and making the console more.
10:03 AM - Downside of watching the Xbox reveal on an Xbox with Kinect, it tries to activate some times.
10:04 AM - They are talking about the introduction of Xbox Live, HD gameing, and Kincect.
10:06 AM - They are talking about simplifing the home entertainment system.
10:12 AM - They are talking about a Kinect and voice integration on the system. Using hand motions to control access to the home screen and not lose what you are seeing.
Are you unable to make it to E3 this year? Do you want to play the newest games that Nintendo has to offer though? Well Nintendo has good news. At select Best Buys you will be able to play the same games that Nintendo will have at their E3 booth. Different way to promote games that traditionally have only be accessible to those at E3, yes. A great idea, also yes. I guess since Nintendo is saving money on not doing a press conference this is a great use of those resources.
Back in 2010 I purchased Mass Effect 2 for the Xbox 360. Along with my game came a code to join the Cerberus network. This was the first of many online passes that I would get in future games that are used to detour the sale of used games. They essentially were $10 DLC passes that came with a new game. Most gamers did not take kindly to this online pass idea. And while a number of companies are using it, EA is no longer counted in their number. Recently they have decided to kill the online pass program they started after finding that it was not popular. This was confirmed by EA senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg.
This means all new EA games will be finding a different way to get extra money from us gamers. Perhaps buying crafting materials like in Dead Space 3. That would be something right up their proverbial alley.
