The Professional Gamer - June 26, 2017

Hi readers! In spite of getting drenched during my commute this morning, I'm feeling good about the weekend. I've got a giant pork roast in the smoker for my (belated) birthday party, and lots of friends over tonight to work on artwork and other projects. Life is pretty good!

The highlight of my geekiness this week was showing Kiki's Delivery Service to my brother's girlfriend. I think I have talked about this movie previously, but I'm always so delighted to show it to someone new. The themes of finding your passion and inner strength, moving to a new city, and establishing oneself as a person in a career. In addition, the new blu-ray version is great, with crisp, vivid colors. I'm regretting that I don't have some better to speakers to enjoy the remastered audio as well.

I'm looking forward to Denver Comic Con next weekend, but it will likely prevent me from getting my regular article together. I'm planning to write a bit on my experiences and the comics that I end up buying. Have a great week and game on!

Fangirl (Book) Review

Fangirl (Book) Review

Hey all! Here is my review of the book “Fangirl” by Rainbow Rowell.

This book follows Cath and her twin sister, Wren as they navigate their first year of Collage. In her first year of college we watch as Cath navigates new responsibilities with schoolwork, form new relationships and redefine old ones while she closes the chapter on her life with the end of a book series that has become such a big part of her life. Cath is your normal freshman in college, learning the ropes at a new school and figuring out that not everything works out the way you want. Something that is very different from the world that she has created as a fanfic author of the fictional, “Carry On”.

Denver Comic Con 2017 - Are You Prepared?

Well folks, DCC is a little under two weeks away. Soon we will be geeking it up in the Colorado Convention Center. But due to the need for a safe environment there are some new rules on what you can take in and what you can wear. So how can you prepare to make entry into the convention as easy as possible? And what can you do to make sure you have fun? Well I am glad you asked.

Cari's E3 2017 Review

Cari's E3 2017 Review

Hey Guys, Cari here and I’m reporting on E3 2017 after returning from L.A. I don’t have a ton to report this year but here are my first impressions of the things that I saw. Day one I got to see Natsume’s booth, DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY NT, and Marvel versus Capcom. (I saw many things including gaming setups and technology and there were a ton of games showcased this year, these are what I got my hands on). Day two was very light, I played Super Mario Odyssey and Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, and watched Chris play some Knack II. Day three I played Lego Dimensions and Sonic Forces.

The Professional Gamer - June 19, 2017

Hi everyone! I hope you all have had a good week and have enjoyed Chris's coverage of E3. I was excited to see lots of stuff that Nintendo has coming up for the next year. I didn't really thing that I was going to be interested in the Breath of the Wild downloadable content, but the "Trial of the Sword" actually looks very interesting. On the other hand, I have essentially no desire to try playing the game in Hard Mode; the game is already pretty hard. The Hero's Path seems like a bit of a gimmick, but might still be fun to use anyways.

Super Mario Odyssey is looking like a fun game as well, and I've enjoyed watching Twitter joking about the how Mario takes over other people's bodies. Including joke about Mario taking over the body of an average business person on the street while they are talking to their spouse.

Last on my cool E3 news list is the announcement of Metroid Prime: 4. At this point, we don't know anything about the game, but I'm hopeful that returning to the Prime series will be a magnificent rebirth for the Metroid series. I heard such bad things about the most recent games, that I didn't even give them a chance. I'm hoping that things will be better for this game. In the end, I'm cautiously optimistic for this new game.

That's all I've got for now. Have a great week and game on!

Mario Odyssey Hands-On

Mario Odyssey Hands-On

Mario  Odyssey  of the newest entry in the long line of games about a plumber that I don't think actually has any plumbing experience. And, if memory serves, the first new 3D version of the game since Mario Galaxy 2 . In this have Bowser has, unpredictability, kidnapped Princess Peach! I know, such a plot twist. This time he has even sent it wedding invites though. But he made a grave mistake, he pissed off a magic top hat! Sure Bowser has perfected his plan on stopping Mario, but Mario with a magic hat? Doom has arrived on Bowser's door stop. Or at least it will once Mario and Cappy (the aforementioned hat) have finished gathering a band for his old girlfriend, Paulina.

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite

Capcom had a showing of the newest entry in the MvC universe, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite . The booth had two ways to play, versus mode and the full story.  The full story takes about 30 minutes to run through, so their is a little substance there. The versus mode was the popular draw, although this may have been due to the faster line. Cari and I went head to head in a one round match. The gameplay was quick with here making heavy use of here infinity stone to keep me close to her preventing me from using ranged attacks. The game was fun and I look forward to the full relase when it comes out.

Knack II - Co-op

Knack II - Co-op

Co-op + platformer is an ancient combination. The earliest on I remember playing was the first Toe Jam and Earl  for the Sega Genesis. Since then it has been done and done again. As such it can be hard to make good on any new entry in the genre. But Knack 2  seems to do a decent job.
