The Professional Gamer - February 25, 2019

Ah, hello there readers. I’ve had a low key week here, not doing a whole of geeky stuff. For one thing, I spent Thursday and Friday away from home, and wasn’t in the mood for anime on Monday when Mob Psycho 100 was released. All I really did was watch the last season of Legend of Korra and started reading through the Hoard of the Dragon Queen module for a D&D game that I’m planning. As I writing this article on Friday night, I’m looking forward to two D&D games this weekend. One, a homebrew campaign that is more on the silly and fun end of the spectrum. The second game is running the Curse of Stradh module. In both cases, I feel like I’ve finally learned who my characters are, and I have a much deeper attachment to them compared to earlier characters in other games.

Reggie is Retiring

You may have already heard this, but Reggie Fils-Aime is retiring as President of Nintendo of America in April. Reggie has been with Nintendo for 15 years, 12 of those as president, and is passing the torch to Doug Bowser (seriously). Here is his goodbye video:

And here is the gentleman that is going to step up and take the mantle from Reggie. With this Bowser finally gets control of the Mushroom Kingdom. May he be a benevolent ruler.

Hello faithful readers, and welcome to this weeks installment of The Professional Gamer. Last week, I spent a lot of time talking about Mod Psycho 100 and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. I haven’t watched Slime yet this week. And as I discussed last week, I may not end up watching it at all. What did I do? Keep reading to find out. Just a reminder, spoilers for current season anime below. If you aren’t caught up, you may want to do that before you continue reading.

Well, this has been a fun end to a week. I had a quick day trip out to Albuquerque (via plane) to have a look at a project site. I'll be posting this on Saturday afternoon, but as of late on Friday, I'm on a train heading from the Denver Airport back to my house. In other news, I caught back up on the seasonal anime. Well, for the most part. I have one more episode of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime to watch. Come to think of it, I guess I'm not actually watching a whole lot of anime this season. I'd change that, but it might mean watching some of the shows that, at least on first appearance, seem a little trashy. This intro has gone on long enough, let's get to the meat. Spoilers abound for Mob Psycho 100 and Slime; you have been warned.

Anime Review - Rising of the Shield Hero

Anime Review - Rising of the Shield Hero

Rising of the Shield Hero is a recent entry in the anime isekai (person pulled into another world) genre, although the light novel was originally released in 2013 in Japan and 2015 here in the States. The plot of the story is that 4 heroes were summoned to a world of sword and sorcery to combat waves of enemies and save the world (dun dun duuuunnnnn). Each of these heroes are granted a legendary weapon that they need to level; The Sword, The Bow, The Spear, and the Shield. By being bestowed one of these items you are forbidden from using anything other then it for combat. And the stage is now set for the adventure to begin.

Hello and welcome to another post with me, Jim. This week has been pretty good for me. I mean, I was trying to fight off a sinus infection and ended up going to the doctor to get some help with it. I mean, I’ve still run about 12 miles this week, so its not like I was doing that bad. But, I just want to nip any problem like that in the bud before it becomes more serious. Especially since I’m running a half-marathon this weekend. And attending an all day meeting. So, I’m pretty much not going to do anything geeky and worth talking about over the weekend. Anyways, what geeky things have I been doing? Read on to find out.

Righty-o everyone! Glad to see you back for another post. This week has been a fair amount of doing chores around the house. I had Monday off, and spent most of it working with Crystal to clean up part of our kitchen: tidying and organizing so that it is easier for us to find the things that we need. Other than that, I watched some more of my wife playing through Dragon Quest XI, and then I played a bit of Elite: Dangerous on a few days. Other than that, all I’ve really done is watch more of Avatar. Let’s talk about it.

Hello, readers! And welcome to another week with the Professional Gamer. A technical error with NPR podcasts this week led me to finally switch from download podcast to my computer via iTunes and transferring to an iPod classic, to listening to things directly on my phone. Surprisingly, this setback led to me catching up on my podcast to such a degree that I typically only have my daily podcasts plus one or two additional episodes to listen to every day. And, this has honestly been pretty nice. I don’t feel panicked about trying to listen to podcast every waking moment, and I can actually switch between podcasts and music at work depending on why type of task that I’m working on. Enough about that, let’s discuss some geeky stuff.

Nan Desu Kan Day 3 Discussion

The last day of the convention is always bittersweet. By Sunday morning, I’m usually pretty tired for the long hours and lots of excitement about everything happening around me, so I’m eager to go back to my regular working life. But, I love the energy that comes from being surrounded by people who share a common passion. Sunday morning was filled with guest interviews (which you can listen to here). I followed that up with a few more panels, and then made my way home and back to regular life.

Hello readers, and welcome back again! This week, I’ve been doing the usual: back at work and doing some geeky things on the side. In terms of significant events this week, I finally caught up on my podcast queue, leaving me some additional time to read during my commute. I’m excited to enjoy some good books again. So, let’s look at what else I found time for this week.
