Happy Star Wars Day!

StarWarsDay.jpg

Happy Star Wars day fellow geeks. Today is the day to celebrate all that is Star Wars, and give us an excuse to buy some new toys / collectables / decor all related to our favorite universe. The official Star Wars site has a nice list of sales happening today. If interested you can find them here.

My favorite on the list is Ruggable. At 15% off that can be a decent discount on a large sized rug. And if you are the lego type the Lego Store has a huge selection of new stuff (at least from the last time I looked at it).

May the Force be with you and have a great day!

DPCC Becomes FAN EXPO Denver

You read that correctly. Denver Pop Culture Con is now FAN EXPO Denver starting in 2022, or late 2021 if they are lucky. What is FAN EXPO? FAN EXPO runs a number of different conventions across the continent. This includes events such as MEGACON in Orlando, FAN EXPO Dallas, FAN EXPO Canada, FAN EXPO Boston, and more that I am too lazy to keep listing. With the addition of Denver to the list this makes FAN EXPO the “largest comic con producer in North America”.

Now to the important parts, what does this mean for the fans and attendees? Well, according to the handy bullet pointed list provided in the announcement, this means that FAN EXPO Denver will:

  • Attract even more world-class talent to Denver’s annual pop-culture con

  • Expand experiences of all ages

  • Increase the reach for local artists and vendors to a national stage

And what does this mean for Pop Culture Classroom (PCC) and all the work they do? From what I gleam from the article they are going to be integral to that “all ages” part of the con. With another wonderful bullet pointed list PCC will:

  • Provide high-quality education experiences with Kid’s Lab, Gaming and Teen Lounge, and other programs

  • They will be the featured charity and FAN EXPO Denver to provide vital funding for year round nonprofit work

  • Spend more time working with the community and classrooms doing more year-round events to spark literacy, learning, imagination and inclusive communities through pop culture

And we really need that last one to shake off some bad stereotypes of the pop culture community. Fingers crossed we get to see how this partnership pulls through sooner then later.

Battle.Net Updated!

After many many many years of the same interface, the crazy bastards at ActivisionBlizzard have finally done it, they updated Battle.Net to a new UI!

Battlenet update.png

Look at the beautiful new look. The friends page is now on the right instead of window in the feed area. The new news feed area in dead center on what is going on first in game and then in general. And most importantly I DON’T SEE GAMES I DON’T OWN! This was the thing that always irritated me in the old UI. There are games I don’t own and don’t want to see, and now I do not. I can click on all games and see them there, but it is not forced on me.

And that is all. Just wanted to get that off my chest.

The State of The Gameslave

Check. 1, 2, 3…. Ok this thing is still on.

Greetings fellow geeks! It has been WAY too long since I wrote something and A LOT of things have changed over the past year. Since the last convention season ended I have become a father, a pandemic happened and all the conventions that I love were cancelled for a year or two a result, and I moved to a new house. Life is finally starting to settle down (as much as it can with an 18 month old) and as a result I am going to be able to start getting back into the website.

A few plans I have is to start streaming gameplay. The new place has a basement that I am going to get setup in. This also means I should be able to record more gameplay and do more reviews as a result as I teach myself how to edit video. If anyone has good recommendations for video editing software I am up for suggestions.

Well that is really all I have for now. But I will be on more often with random news, comments and the such. See you all soon!

Denver Pop Culture Con Delayed

You read that right friends. Denver Pop Culture Con has been delayed . They have moved from 4th of July weekend to Thanksgiving weekend; they must like their holidays. This was not a choice made easily by the staff at DPCC, but out of necessity. Currently the Colorado Convention Center that hosts DPCC is going to be re-purposed as an additional hospital to help those afflicted with COVID-19. In order keep as many people safe and healthy has possible the decision to delay was made.

Good news is that we with geeks friends and family have a wonderful place to do our Christmas Shopping this year!. Gotta look for that silver lining.

The Professional Gamer - March 13, 2020

Well, we’ve found our way to another Friday the 13th. I don’t put stock in those things, but it feels like a really weird coincidence this time around. Colorado has declared a state of emergency and banned all large meetings. And we’ve also seen our first death related to COVID-19. I’m looking at potentially going to remote work for the foreseeable future.

Hi friends. It has been a week, and I didn’t get to have as much time for fun as I had hoped. Such is the life of the local political party officer during primary season. The Colorado Caucuses are this weekend and I’m busy preparing for them. Once past, I’m hoping that I’ll be a little less busy. And, I’m having trouble with watching Keep Your Hands of Eizouken, but not because its bad. It’s because it is so good, and I don’t want to get to the end of the available episodes. As an alternative, I picked up Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun, thanks to the recommendation by Geoff Thew (YouTube: Mother’s Basement). And its been a lot of fun in a fairly old-school way. One part of that charm is the ways that the production studio stretched their budget to the absolute breaking point. Plus, an opening theme that feels like it was written in the 90’s. I’m about 4 episodes in, and the comedy is really good. I hope you give it a chance as well.

Now, that all I have time to talk about this week. I’ve got books to read and a caucus to prepare for. Have a great week and game on!

Hi folks. I was so busy on travel last week that I didn’t have time to do anything very geeky. Mostly, I was out on project sites and then talking with project engineers after hours. And, I flew back on a redeye last night, which has left me very loopy. I’ll try to have something more posted for you all next week, but this is all that I can managed tonight. Have a great week and game on!

Hi folks and welcome back! I managed to spend a bit more of my time this week doing things that I enjoy, rather than chores. On the other hand, I’ve tended to horde new episodes of anime and not watch them. I just want to binge through stuff later, and I can’t do that when there is only one episode coming out each week. It just too hard to wait. But, I have been playing some Warcraft as well, and that lends itself to being talked about . Let’s get started!
