Super Smash Bros Announcments!
/Today Nintendo aired a special Nintendo Direct, one that focused on only one game, Super Smash Bros for the 3DS and Wii U. And they talked about a number of things. Characters, levels, release windows, and game modes were all the subject of today's Nintendo Direct.
Release
In what will irritate some, but in a marketing sense is a stroke of genius, the 3DS version and Wii U version of the game will not be released at the same time. The 3DS version is set to come out this summer and the Wii U version this fall. Each version will have the same roster, but different stages and different game modes. They really pushed making sure that people would get the 3DS version since it should come out pretty soon. One thing that should be mentioned is that the fighters, in full 3D, will be moving at 60 FPS. That is no small feat. There also a game mode unique to the 3DS will be called field smash. Here up to four fighters will spend 5 minutes defeating random enemies from different games and gaining power-ups. Once the time is up the four characters will fight with their new abilities. May the most powerful win.
Characters
First off the announced characters. So far there are a total of 29 characters thus far. We have 6 new characters and 23 returning. Lets start with a big change to how some of the returning characters work. Characters that changed form before, such as Samus and Zelda, no longer do so. Now Zero Suit Samus and Sheik are their own characters with their own abilities. Although Zero Suit Samus now has rocket boots in the shape of high heels. I get the lore purpose for it, but her old boots looked better for fighting in. Charizard is playable on his own now instead of being tied to a trainer, and Yoshi stands straight up now. No word yet on if Solid Snake is making a come back.
Now on to new characters. So far we have seen the Wii Fit TRAINER (both male and female), Mega Man, Village, Rosalina and Luma, Little Mac, and just recently announced, Greninja. A few characters got the spot light during the Nintendo Direct. Rosalina and Luma will need multitasking but can each play separately and surround opponents. Little Mac is a power house on the ground, just don't take him airborne. The trainer can use yoga to store energy for attacks and even launch ranged attacks. And Mega Man can pull on a number of his defeated foes for special attacks.
Since there are some nice pictures of the just announced characters, I won't limit it to just one or two.
Were there more announcements? Yes, a lot of them, but these are what caught my eye the most. If you want to see the whole announcement you can see it here. It runs about 40 minutes, but is worth the time.
