The Professional Gamer - September 19, 2014

Nan Desu Kan provided a very busy weekend of geeky activity.  We have already posted some of our photos and the first of our interviews.  Watch this space for additional interviews, articles, and panel recordings.  For this week's article, I'm going to concentrate on my geeky life outside of the convention world.

Watching: This week I've been watching all of the anime.  ZeldaQueen and I bought The Devil is a Part-Timer and have watched through half of the series during the course of the last week.  The dubbing is pretty good, but I feel that some of the jokes were translated better in the subtitled version.  Still, the show is good overall and definitely worth watching.  ZeldaQueen also turned me on to Gekkan Shojo: Nozaki-kun (Monthly Girls': Nozaki-kun).  This show is currently simulcasting on Hulu, so you can watch it along with the Japanese television audience.  The plot revolves around Chiyo Sakura, who has a crush on Umetaro Nozaki.  It turns out that Nozaki draws a shojo manga for a monthly collection.  As the show continues, we meet the Nozaki and Sakura's other friends who provide inspiration for the cast of Nozaki's manga.  The characters are interesting in that they often play against trope, but are not punished for this.  They are simply treated as people who have certain characteristics.  Finally, I've started watching Date A Live, which I can best summarize as a dating sim where the stakes are higher than usual.  I've only watched two episodes, so I will reserve judgement for now.

Reading: I've obtained a book called Proof, which traces the science and natural history of booze.  So far, I've learned more about yeast and grain than I knew already; and I'm a homebrewer, so I knew a bit to begin with.  The writing style is both fun and informative.  If you are looking for some good non-fiction, you should definitely pick this book up.

Playing: I spent all of last weekend playing the various Nintendo 3DS StreetPass games.  NDK tends to be full of Nintendo fans, thereby offering a great opportunity to further progress in puzzle collection and ghost destruction.  I also made a slight bit more progress in Bravely Default.

I'd better call that enough for this week.  I've still got a mountain of audio to edit and several articles to write.  Have a great week, and game on!
