/Hi folks! I hope you all had a good week. I’ve been enjoying the seasonable autumn weather in Colorado, cleaning out my office a bit, and looking forward to some work travel next week. In the mean time, I’ve finished the summer season anime that I was watching and started into autumn. And, I made it through another dungeon in Link’s Awakening. I don’t know that it’s worth talking a lot about playing an hour of a video game, but let’s talk through some anime in a rapid fire mode.
First, the end of summer season brings me to the end of Cop Craft, which really was a good show. And it had a satisfying ending. I could imagine more adventures happening in the world, but I also feel that we got to a good closure in the character arcs for our protagonists. In the end, I’m very satisfied. I know there are a lot of big shonen titles with new episodes this season, but if you missed watching it during summer, I really recommend fitting this series into your schedule.
Next, I would talk about My Hero Academia, but there isn’t much to say. The first episode this season is very much a recap episode. It doesn’t use lots of previously animated footage, but it also doesn’t move the plot or characters forward in any significant way.
Then, we can talk about the weird isikei series that were released this season. But, these are different. More in the line of Konosuba rather than SAO.
Time for some titles I guess. Cautious Hero: The Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious features a multiverse where gods are assigned to cleanse worlds of evil. To do this, they summon heroes from other worlds and then support them. As the series begins, novice goddess Ristarte is assigned an S-class (think super dangerous) world to cleanse. She panics then starts searching from the pool of available heroes, thinking that someone from Japan will be best since there are so many isikei stories produced there. Yes, it’s that type of meta-narrative. The hero she summons, Seiya Ryuguin, has great stats, but is pathologically cautious. He spends a few months locked in a room doing push-ups and sit-ups to level up prior to heading to his assigned world. Once he has gone there and purchased some starting gear, he uses multiple special moves to kill a single slime. The series has promise, so let’s follow it for a few more episodes.
Kemono Michi: Rise Up, is the isekai starring a pro-wrestler who loves animals. He is summoned to the fantasy world by a princess who asks him to kill the beasts that are troubling her realm. He is so offended that he suplexes her, then runs off, pets a wolf-man, and makes friends with a pack of three-headed dogs. This shows promise to be a great comedy series this season, and I’ll be watching it closely.
We’ll see how things shake out next week, but I might not be catching up on things right away. We’ll see how I’m feeling come Friday. Either way, have a great week and game on!
