The Professional Gamer - March 11, 2019
/Ah, hello again! Welcome back to The Professional Gamer, where I spend some time every week talking about how I don’t have time to do anything fun anymore. And while that isn’t strictly true, I do have less time to enjoy myself than I did back in college. This leads me to look for the best ways to entertain myself during my limited free time. Read on to learn about my adventures for the week.
Alright, let’s take last week’s post and go in reverse order. I’m starting to do some of the more detail work now. The module (Hoard of the Dragon Queen) does not include a lot of details for the first town that the characters start in. I think they may end up spending a few days there, resting after some early parts of the adventure, so I want to make sure that I have a few details fleshed out. I also, don’t like exactly how the module starts, so I’m preparing a brief introductory adventure as well. I’ve got the introductory adventure set, for the most part. I have the general idea of the encounters that I want to use set, and just need to refine the number of monsters to suit the number of players that I end up with. In terms of planning out the town of Greenest, I have an inn and a tavern set up, a general goods store, and I fleshed out the two named NPC’s that exist. I want to add a few more NPC’s and shops to the town for the players to use if they need them. There are a few other NPC’s whose existance is implied, so I’ll make some details for them as well, since the players are likely to interact with them at some point. I’m still super excited about it, even though I’m several months away from it. Heck, I might be a year away from starting this game depending on how the current games go.
I finished Season 2 of The Dragon Prince, and am really enjoying the direction that things are taking. There’s some spoilers ahead, so steer clear if you haven’t finished the latest season yet.
I’m really surprised by Ezran and Callum deciding to split up at the end of this season. I figured that a lot of the narrative in the show would focus on their relationship as brothers. And although it certainly isn’t final, I don’t see an obvious narrative route for them to end up back together before the series finale. The depth of the characters is constantly surprising to me. Most characters have their own motivations beyond being strictly good or evil. They have goals and histories that shape their actions. And, generally, believe that they are doing the right thing, even if their actions harm others. Ezran is going to face a challenging situation when he returns home. As clever as he is, he is still very young, and others will likely try to take advantage of him. Godspeed kids, hope you can achieve all of your goals.
I’d talk a bit more about Starcraft, but I don’t actually have much to share. I’ve played a couple more maps, but not a lot. Crystal, meanwhile, have been playing Dragon Quest 11. At this point, she’s in the post-game, or Chapter 3 as some call it. She’s put in more than 100 hours on this game, and is still not finished. She is getting pretty close at this point, with only a few more bosses to take on.
Oh, and thank goodness for this week’s episode of Mob Pschyo 100. I was really worried after the cliffhanger last week. The story now is likely to move quickly with more action scenes. I hope that Shigeo can overcome the baddies and make life safe for his family and friends again. Maybe next year he can finish in the top ten at the 5K run.
