The Professional Gamer - September 14, 2019

Hi folks! I got tied up last week taking care of some dogs and I didn’t get a chance to make a post. I’m not really going to be able to make up for it, but I’ll post a little something for you all this week.

First up, I caught up on two current release anime series, Astra: Lost in Space and CopCraft. To qualify, I’ve caught up on the dub for both of these. I’m close to catching up on DanMachi (Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls at the Dungeon). Of these three, DanMachi is honestly the series that I care the least about currently. Next to the other shows, it just feels very tired, like its treading on very familiar ground. Of the other two shows, Astra feels like its pushing the envelope and CopCraft feels like its remixing older tropes and styles into something new. Of the three, CopCraft is my favorite, for reasons that I’ve discussed here previously. It’s just so stylish and has fun characters, and cool intrigue plot. When I was running an Urbana Arcana TTRPG a decade ago, this is the kinda tone that I tried and failed to establish.

Other than that, I’ve had a good time with my local D&D groups. But, I feel like there is not a lot to report about them that will be amusing, or even make sense, to someone on the outside.

In any case, I’ve still be working on editing all those interview that I recorded at NDK, and planning to keep pushing out an episode per week, usually on Wednesday. I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed talking with the guests. Have a great week and game on!
