World of Warcraft Dragonflight (Officially) Announced
/As of this morning Activision Blizzard has officially announced the newest World of Warcraft expansion, Dragonflight. In this new expansion we get to visit the ancestral home of the dragon flights, the Dragon Isles. Not the most inventive name, but lets go with it.
First off, the best thing about this expansion’s announcement is the lack of expansion specific powerset. There are no artifact power, azerite, or covenant equivalents. We are not going to find ourselves getting used to specific powers or rotations that are just going to go away.
The expansion is also going to introduce a new race/class combo, the Dracthyr Evoker. To be clear the race is Dracthyr and they are the only ones that can be Evokers, and they can only be Evokers. This means that, yes, we are going to each have one of these. They can be either mid ranged DPS or healers, and are apparently the first result of Nefarian’s attempts to create dragons that can use power from all 5 aspects. This apparently didn’t scale up very well given the failure of the chromatic dragon flight, but it worked great for us player characters it would appear!
This expansion also is going to introduce dragonriding. Yes, they spell it as one word on the official site so I am going to as well. As a rider of dragons when you arrive on the Isle of Dragons you will be granted a relatively small dragon (compared to the aspects) to ride. Through the expansion you will learn skills such as diving through the air to gain speed as well as different cosmetics.
Another BIG change for the game is going to be the talent system. After 10 - 11 years (really depends on when the expansion comes out) we are getting back a talent tree. Instead of the pick 1 of 3 options you will be given two tress, one is class based and the other is spec based. Meaning one side will be shared and empower you regardless of what spec you play, and the other will empower that spec specifically. This should allow us to have more individuality to our characters going forward and is something I look forward to.
There is also a big revamp to professions coming which is making this game sound more like an MMO anime where people become complete OP be relaying on their crafting. But it could make crafting more fun and get people to work together more to get specific items. But we will see if this actually happens. There is also going to be GUI revamp, which lets admit, this game needs. Lastly, there are 4 new zones, new dungeons, and new raids. Something we expected since it is kind of required for an expansion.
And that is all I really have to say about this expansion right now. Am I looking forward to it? Yes I am. Am I an optimist thinking it will be great and nothing will be done wrong? Well, not that far, but I do hope it will be good. Guess we will see though.
