FAN EXPO DENVER 2022 is less then Two Week Away!

Good afternoon all. FAN EXPO DENVER 2022 is almost here, and I have been criminally absent about mentioning anything! So what can we expect at the first regular edition of this convention?

BEER!

First off, the con special beer has returned! The beer this year is called Doctor Hoptopus. It is an “easy-drinking session Hazy IPA’ and is “bursting with tropical hop aromas and notes of tangerine, citrus and coconut”. To celebrate Breckenridge Brewery is holding a free event at Monkey Barrel this Friday. Doors open at 6 pm and the first 150 people through the door will get a free customer glass when they order “Bock Machina Beer”. I actually wonder if that last part is a typo from the BrekBrew.com team, but that is what it says.

Guests

After you have yourself a beer you can see about visiting one of the many guests. There are going to be some very prominent visitors from The Shire this year. Frodo (Elijah Wood), Sam (Sean Astin), Merry (Dominick Monaghan) and Pippin (Billy Boyd) are planned to show up this year and will have a reunion in in Main Events at 7:30 PM on Saturday. Sadly tickets for this are extra. There are also several Star Wars actors that will be coming from a galaxy far far away. The most prominent is probably going to be Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) and is joined by Gina Carano, Ming-na Wen, Carl Weathers, Katee Sackhoff and Ashley Eckstein.

You will also be able to see the comedic duo Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith, better known as Jay and Silent Bob along with their fellow Clerks Brian O’Halloran, Jeff Anderson, and Treavor Fehrman. In addition to these celebrities there is a planned 67 comic creators, 25 voice actors, 29 authors, and 7 cosplay guests. Health and Safety

While the world is slowly returning to normal, COVID is still a thing. As of this writing the 7-day average for new cases in Colorado is 1,917 with Denver County being 227 new cases. With that in mind masks are not required. If you are older then 2 but unvaccinated you should still wear a mask. And if you feel sick please stay home. You can still participate via Virtual FAN EXPO DENVER.

People should also remember drink plenty of liquids (preferably water). The average high for June as been around 86° F and for July is expected to be around 92° F. And if you are not used to the elevation here you are looking for a prefect recipe for heat stroke and no one wants that. Stay hydrated, seriously.

Cosplay

Anyone that has spent ANY time on this site should know that one of my favorite things about conventions is cosplay. I love all the work everyone puts into their outfits and love taking photos. That said it sucks to have to turn away because a prop was not allowed in. Head over to the props policy and confirm you can bring them into the convention floor.

I also hope that cosplay is more welcomed this year then it was over the Special Edition convention. I spoke to several friends that do amazing work, and they felt less then welcomed while in the Dealers area. Fingers crossed this time things are a bit better.
