The Professional Gamer - June 12, 2015

This has been another long week at work; which can only mean that I had to make the most of my free time.  And, I feel I had some degree of success this week.  I played a new game, started reading some manga that I've never read, and continued a more in depth viewing of one of my favorite shows.  Read more after the break.

Google Pac-Maps

Google has become kind of known for their epic April Fools events. And 2015 seems like it will be no different. This year if you go to Google Maps you will see a button in the lower left that looks like a Pac-Man map. Clicking on it zooms you to the current road maps you have open and turns it into a playable Pac-Man game complete with ghost spawns, power pellets, and fruit. Is this awesome? Yes! Is this an incredible feat of automatic programming? Yes! Will this coast business a few million in productivity? Most likely!

"Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax" coming to US!

It is no secret that I am a big fan of anime. So when it was announced that "Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax" would be released on consoles (PS3 and Vita) here in the states this summer I was pretty damned happy.  Where else will I finally get to pit out such epic matches like Kirito vs Mikoto Misaka! I guess I should give some more info on this game so you understand where I am coming from.  In "Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax" characters from different anime series fight each other to overthrown the evil Zetsumu. Ok, I really don't know much about it except I get to play some of my favorite characters from the Dengeki Bunko publishing library. This includes properties such as as "Sword Art Online", "Accel World", "Baccano!", "Durarara!!", "Spice and Wolf" and many more.

In all there will be 14 playable characters and 23 support characters. I know this may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I am really looking forward to it!

PlayStation Now Becomes Useful

PlayStation Now Becomes Useful

PlayStation Now is a pretty cool idea. 100's of PS3 games that you can stream to play over your PS4. While it is not true backwards compatibility it is pretty close, and if you never actually owned the games you could just play them from here. Downside is that it was super expensive comparatively to actually play the games. But that will soon no longer be a problem. Starting on 01/13/2015 you can subscribe to the service for $19.99 one month at a time or 3 months for $44.99 ($15.00 / month) for unlimited play of the entire catalog.

Valve submits Etsy C&D Order

sqsp_1409860054262.jpeg

It is no small fact that you can find stuff from just about any fandom on Etsy.com. Ponies, anime, Doctor Who, etc. And for the most part the owners of these IPs look the other way on things being sold through this massive market. But there is a key word here, mostly.  As of this week Valve has submitted a cease and desist order to Etsy requesting all Valve merchandise be removed. That means as of now you can no longer find Portal patches, TF 2 trays, or Half Life hangers (no clue if two of those things actually existed).

I will be honest that I am a little surprised that this does not happen more often. With no quality control anything could go out with a companies brand on it, for good oor bad. But given the rarity of events like this it makes you wonder, is something is going down at the house Gabe built?
