Playstation E3 2018 Showcase
/Sony is the second longest running console manufacturer that is in the game now. Over the past year I have started to play more Sony titles thanks to their support of the single-player story experience, something I rather enjoy. So what did they show at their briefing this year? Let's take a look.
The Last of Us: Part 2
It starts with a dance. Dina take Ellie to the floor. There is happiness here between these two in love. And that then moved immediately to what seems to be a flashback of Ellie stabbing a man in the mouth and sneaking around a swamp. You think things are better for a moment and then you find out otherwise. Apparently in any society where there was an apocalypse level event humans are supposed to become horrible animals that will kill anyone they don't like. Really makes you feel like the human race is doomed; or religious zealots just suck. Watching the combat ammo is still sparse, enemies are smart, and stealth is important. And then back to the dance. The game looks good and I am looking forward to this game.
Ghost of Tsushima
Apparently we are on Day 9 of the Mongol invasion. So I think it is pretty safe to say this is a period game in ancient China. Our hero has a very obedient horse that comes at a whistle. Man game horses are well trained overall, thankfully. He did the cool standing flash thing to someone that charged him, and then took down several Mongols. Combat looks pretty fluid overall. The game as swords and bows, not sure if our main character gets the bow or just your friend. The game has a stealth element and AC style parkour to get around buildings. If the trailer is an indication, there will be beautiful set piece fights. If anything this will be a gorgeous game.
Control
This game is ... odd to say the least. The main character has strange gun that can reconfigure and has some sort of psychokinetic ability. The rooms initially look like something out of an MC Escher painting. Beyond that there was shooting, there was throwing stuff with her mind. It was very chaotic.
Resident Evil 2
In first person a rat walks around a kitchen. Or at least a store house. Then the rat appears to get crushed by some racking. Then a zombie eats a guard that knocked over the racking. Then Chris Redfield shoots the zombie. Resident Evil 2 ha been remade for the PS4 and will be out next year.
Trover Saves the Universe
This looks to be a very none-serious action adventure game. It is introduced by a guy in a bathtub playing the game. You see a little combat, then the TV falls in the tub and electrocutes the guy playing the game. It is weird. Lets just leave it there.
Kingdom Hearts 3
This trailer shows off the pirate world and some of the combat. I am sure that the story information they are showing off is super important and awesome and leads to all sort of things that make a fan boy squeal, but I have not played any of the KH games to date. Guess it is a good thing that they are doing HD versions KH 1.5+2.5 (one game), KH DH 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (someone will need to explain a 2.8 version of game to me later), and KH 3. Looks like the HD remakes might be exclusive to PS, but we know that KH II is not.
Death Stranding
And now Kojima's new game. This thing has been an enigma from day one that people have looked for all sorts of meaning in. In the new trailer it looks like your character is a deliveryman. There is a lot of different terrains that you see people traversing. Or maybe just the main character. And lots of different back packs and floating pallet jacks. If he really is a delivery man I hope he charges a lot given what he is doing. Oh, and we have invisible monster thing. Apparently it can't actually see people. And after he went by we had the floating guys nearly impossible to see in the air. Apparently the flowing guys are the things you want to avoid. I am not even going to try to make sense of the baby in the pack, or the lady eating the larva, or the lady on the beach in a dress. None of this makes sense. So in that sense nothing has changed.
Nioh 2
I didn't hear about Nioh 1, so lets see what I can make sense of on this one. A samurai is running from some oni. Then he gets is sword thrown away. Then it grabs two horns on his head, pulls them out to become an oni himself. So let's just assume it is hack and slash with, oh, RPG elements. That sounds good.
Spider-Man
Electro has broken out of the Raft. He shoots the helicopter that Spider-Man and Yuri are riding on and it crashes. Then Electro breaks out everyone else. Spider-Man now gets to fight all the super powered prisoners. After that is done Rhino throws a pillar at Spider-Man, and then he gets captured temporally by Scorpion. Another prisoner fight happens. You can totally tell they are baiting Spider-Man somewhere on the prison during the event. I know the importance of having a place to put super villains, but they always break out, and things always get worse before they get better. The chase leads to Spider-Man fighting Electro, Rhino, Vulture, Scorpion, and Mr Negative on the roof where he is losing badly. The trailer ends with Spidey saying "Wait, you".
This game is one I am really looking forward to. I have always loved the wall crawler and love the way his games have felt in combat before when pulled off well. This is a must buy for me.
